Third Cut

As we can see I have added some more shots such as close ups as these make a connection between the audience and protagonist. I have also re done the car scene as the weather was different- in the previous shots it was sunny which didn't fit with the rest of my footage. I will also add another close up at the end of  my short film of the protagonist.

Second Cut

Overall I am very pleased with my second cut. I feel I am nearly finished and that this could potentially be the final film. I have cut down dramatically on time as I was over by 2 minutes and I have changed the titles as I thought the transition of the title of the film didn't fit with the rest of the footage. I have also replaced some shots with other footage that has better quality which fits continuity. The font of the titles also match the poster which creates synergy between the two.

Evolution of posters

As we can see my posters have changed dramatically since the original photo. My reason for this was to experiment with the different use of colours, tones and texts, along with positioning. After creating more than one poster I can successfully say my favourite and final poster is:

My reason for this is because it follows the conventions of a film poster. I have clearly addressed the title of film 'The Silent Call' and put additional information in a smaller font at the bottom of the poster. I have also included a release date which is also typically found on film posters along with the production company. Other than this I personally like the use of colours such as the blue/grey tones as this connotes a mysterious and dark vibe. The use of shadowing and faded image on the left also add to this effect. Moreover, the protagonist is also looking at the camera, making a connection with the audience, another key feature found in film posters. In addition to this I have used the same fonts in my short film to create synergy between the two texts.

Reflection on editing

After starting editing my short film I now realise what shots need to be re done. Looking back at particular shots on the camera looked fine, however on a computer screen I can now see some tweaks that need to be changed. For example, there are two shots in which the camera wobbles  This was due to the uneven surface in my outside locations which meant pressing record on and off jolted the camera. Obviously now I need to make a list of the shots I need to re film or perhaps re consider shooting from a different angle entirely. I need to make sure that each shot has the same weather conditions, which may mean waiting a while for a couple of shots to enable continuity.

I still need to find some music to go along with my piece and and I also need to record my phone ringing from an incoming call just to make the sound clearer. After I have filmed a few more shots and re done the other mistakes, I can put my film together and upload as a draft. From there I will analyse what I like/dislike and work from this basis to either correct my film or perfect and move on to my evaluation.

Reflection on filming 18th-24th

Over half term I managed to film most of my short film. On the first day of filming I set out to the field where the main action was going to take place. I did this because my actor for a dead body was available, and wouldn't be available any other time. This meant I had to think about the shots I needed and then film other shots afterwards for different bits of my short film. This was difficult as I wasn't filming in order so I had to remember what shots I completed and which shots needed filming. I made this more easier by making a shot list and ticking off which shots I completed.

I chose to film on Wednesday 20th, Friday 22nd and Sunday 24th and all of these days had good similar weather. There was no rain and it was cloudy with some sunshine which meant the continuity would stay the same. My actor was good and listened to my directions accordingly which meant filming was smooth and easy. Overall I feel I have produced some good shots. Looking back on my footage on the mac I feel I am nearly finished to producing my short film. I need to re do some shots however and maybe consider a more diverse range of angles and distances.
